European data centers towards sustainability: approaches and challenges

Data centers play a crucial role in the journey towards greater environmental sustainability of human activities. Indeed, not only are these sites responsible for high greenhouse gas emissions related to their considerable energy consumption, but also they have significant impacts on ecosystems and human health. These are generated by the extraction and processing of the energy and mineral resources used to build and operate data centers, as well as by the disposal of ICT systems and other types of components. How are data center companies approaching all these aspects?
